AICAR
AICAR (5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide) is a cell-permeable nucleoside analog. Inside the cell it is phosphorylated to ZMP, a structural mimic of AMP. ZMP activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) without altering the adenylate energy charge, which distinguishes it from physiological AMPK activators. Standard research applications include metabolic pathway mapping, mitochondrial biogenesis assays, and glucose transporter trafficking studies. For laboratory research use only.
