SS-31 (Elamipretide, D-Arg-dimethylTyr-Lys-Phe-NH2, CAS 736992-21-5) is a cell-permeable tetrapeptide. It concentrates selectively at the inner mitochondrial membrane through electrostatic interaction with cardiolipin. Stabilization of the cardiolipin-cytochrome c interaction preserves electron transport chain complex assembly and reduces electron leak-driven superoxide generation in isolated mitochondria and intact cell models. It is the reference compound for cardiolipin-targeted mitochondrial research. Supplied lyophilized for in vitro research use only.
